The
goal of this project was to breathe new life into the Vanier Richelieu
Centre. Originally The Residence of Les Pères Blancs, the
residence was used as the City Hall building for the former municipality
of Vanier. Since then, the building has been used by the City of
Ottawa as a youth and conference center. Through the renovations,
the building was transformed into new City of Ottawa office space,
a new art gallery and museum for the francophone population, as
well as providing an improved youth and conference center. The construction
involved phased demolition of the various floors and sections of
the building with construction forces working around occupied spaces.
The construction also included adding a new entrance, additional
office space and new handicapped accessibility ramps. The construction
work included all aspects of construction from foundations to paint
finishes, including structural steel work, drywall, various flooring,
masonry, fire proofing, new HVAC, sprinkler, plumbing and HVAC.
